PNHS Supports ‘Toward A Nuanced History of The Marcos Era: Approaches, Evidences and Contestations’ Online Conference, 28 Feb-1 Mar

The Marcos era has been the target of numerous critical studies and investigations in recent years as a result of various controversies. In this online conference to be held from 28 February 2023 to 1 March 2023, our keynote speaker will shed light on the major issues associated with the Marcos regime and address how various lines of research have dealt with them.

This event will focus on how history can be approached and interpreted when dealing with controversial events such as the Martial Law regime under President Ferdinand Marcos in the Philippines. Discussions will center around the ways in which historians have grappled with the issue so far and how further work can shed new light on what actually happened during the Marcos era, as well as the various interpretations and beliefs that surround it.

Join us as we explore various approaches, evidence, and contestations surrounding the Marcos period, focusing on developing a more nuanced understanding of this crucial era in Philippine history. Our program features esteemed scholars and researchers from diverse fields, each bringing unique perspectives to the discussion.

42nd PNHS National Conference on Local and National History Goes Virtual, Too

The Philippine National Historical Society (PNHS) invites everyone to its 42nd National Conference on Local and National History, to be held in virtual format from November 18-20, 2021, with the University of San Carlos, Cebu City, as host. The conference had originally targeted a face-to-face activity in the hope that the pandemic would dissipate by this time of the year. The venue is most significant because Cebu and the Visayas, as a whole, played important roles in the events that unfolded in the 16th century, which is the period of focus of the Quincentennial Commemorations of 2021.

PNHS Holds 41st National Conference on Local and National History via Webinars

The Philippine National Historical Society will be holding the 41st National Conference on Local and National History through a series of webinars, from 9:00 to 11:30 in the morning on October 24, November 14, and November 28, 2020. The conference is co-sponsored with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts – Committee on Historical Research (NCCA-CHR), and the Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC).

Keeping the torch burning amidst this difficult health crisis, the society has assembled papers that highlight several historic events taking place, namely: the quincentennial commemorations taking place in 2021 (the first circumnavigation of the world, the introduction of Christianity and the victory in the Battle of Mactan), the commemoration of the end of World War II, and other topics that are relevant to the pandemic. PNHS holds 40th National Conference on Local and National History, National Museum of the Philippines, October 24-26, 2019

The Philippine National Historical Society (PNHS), the oldest professional organization of historians and practitioners of history in the Philippines, held the 40th edition of the National Conference on Local and National History at the National Museum of Fine Arts Auditorium, National Museum of the Philippines, last October 24 to 26, 2019.

Co-sponsored by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts – Committee on Historical Research (NCCA-CHR), the National Museum of the Philippines, and the Philippine Social Science Council (PSSC), the conference’s theme was “History, Culture, Heritage” with the aim of looking at neglected areas of historical research and provide vibrant exchanges from interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary perspectives.

Call for Papers on Philippine Studies for Conference in Alicante, Spain

The International Conference on Philippine Studies (ICOPHIL XI 2020) is now accepting submissions of paper and panel abstracts and proposals for roundtable discussions for the 11th staging of this quadrennial event to be held in Alicante, Spain, on September 21 to 23, 2020.

Organized by the Philippine Studies Association, Inc., International Council for Philippine Studies Conferences, and Universidad de Alicante, the 2020 edition of ICOPHIL is going to be hosted by the Aula Magna, Facultad de Filosofia y Letras of the Universidad de Alicante.

The theme is “Philippine Studies Across Borders, Across Disciplines: Collaborations, Interventions, Linkages.”

MSA holds 28th Annual Manila Studies Conference

The Manila Studies Association is holding its 28th Annual Manila Studies Conference at the Mapua University along Muralla Street in Intramuros, Manila, from November 28 to 29, 2019. The conference, co-sponsored with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Mapua University, will present various researches and studies on the different aspects of Manila and its districts, including topics on history, culture, education, architecture, and heritage.
